Senators Clinch Playoff Spot

August 29, 2013 - Eastern League (EL1)
Harrisburg Senators News Release

Harrisburg, PA - A ninth inning rally by the Harrisburg Senators fell short and ended in controversy, as the Altoona Curve salvaged the series finale 4-1 at Metro Bank Park. However, Richmond lost in the bottom of the ninth inning in Reading, securing a third playoff spot in four years for the Senators. It is the 15th playoff appearance overall for the Senators in 27 seasons.

Trailing 4-0 into the bottom of the ninth, the Senators scored on an RBI single by Justin Bloxom. They loaded the bases for Sean Nicol, who hit a slow roller to second. After recording the force out at second base, third base umpire Jansen Visconti called Ricky Hague for baserunners interference, which ended the game.

Taylor Hill tossed seven solid innings and gave up six hits and three runs. Matt Swynenberg threw a shutout ninth inning in relief.

Tomorrow, the Senators travel to Richmond and open a four-game series to close the regular season. Game time is 7:05 p.m. and the game can be heard on 1460am The Ticket, on the Internet through the Senators website, and it's available through iHeart Radio beginning with the pregame show at 6:45 p.m.
