Tacoma Rainiers News Release
New Orleans, LA - John Andreoli launched his seventh home run with Tacoma and was a triple shy of the cycle on Saturday, but the Rainiers fell to the New Orleans Baby Cakes in the series opener, 5-3.
Andreoli locked up the first run of the game with his solo blast in the top of the first that put the Rainiers (52-66) on the board, 1-0. The outfielder collected three hits with two runs and a double in the contest.
An inning later, Aaron Knapp extended Tacoma's lead when he singled home shortstop Kelby Tomlinson in his first Triple-A at bat. The 24-year-old was transferred from Double-A Arkansas pregame and made his Rainiers debut against the Baby Cakes (63-53) on Saturday.
After New Orleans took the lead in the bottom of the fourth, first baseman Eric Filia singled home Andreoli, knotting the score in the top of the fifth, 3-3.
Left-hander Anthony Misiewicz took the hill for Tacoma and was charged with the loss when he surrendered three runs across 4 2/3 innings and collecting four punchouts. The southpaw entered the game coming off his strongest outing of the season when he tossed eight innings of hitless baseball on August 4 against Iowa.
Sidewinder Aaron Northcraft (0-2) took over on the mound with two outs in the bottom of the fifth and retired the first batter he faced, leaving an inherited runner stranded. The right-hander went 1 1/3 innings with a pair of strikeouts but took the loss when he surrendered the lead.
Southpaw Taylor Guilbeau surrendered one run in the remainder of the seventh and righty Gerson Bautista went a 1-2-3 eighth.
Tacoma will face the Baby Cakes on Saturday for an 11:00 a.m. PDT matinee. Southpaw Sean Nolin (3-2, 5.65) will get the nod from manager Daren Brown as the Rainiers continue the four gamer in New Orleans. Mike Curto will have full coverage on South Sound Talk 850 with audio streaming available on the Tacoma Rainiers TuneIn Radio Network.
