Iowa Cubs News Release
DES MOINES, IA - The Iowa Cubs (63-55) swarmed the Salt Lake Bees (51-67) by scoring in four of the first five innings to take a 7-3 victory on Saturday at Principal Park
The I-Cubs grabbed an early lead with a first-inning two-run homer by Zack Short. Iowa kept the momentum going with Trent Giambrone blasting his team-leading 23rd homer of the year in the second and Johnny Field coming around to score on a fielding error in the third.
Iowa starter Tyson Miller had his best Triple-A outing, going 5.1 innings and allowing one run on six hits to earn his first win at Principal Park. The only run came via a Jarrett Parker big fly in the second. Miller stranded a runner in scoring position in three of the four innings he completed.
Iowa plated three in the fifth to pad the lead. Mark Zagunis and Addison Russell singled, before Robel Garcia walked to load the bases. Field knocked home Zagunis, then a sac fly from P.J. Higgins and a groundout from Giambrone plated the other two Iowa runners to give the I-Cubs a commanding 7-1 advantage.
The Bees scored a pair of runs in the eighth, but Randy Rosario slammed the door with a 1-2-3 inning in the ninth to finalize the box score.
POSTGAME NOTES:
- Tyson Miller's five strikeouts are the most he has recorded in a Triple-A outing. His five walks are a Triple-A and season high.
- Craig Brooks' 2.1 frames marked the 13th time he has gone 2.0 or longer this season.
- Zack Short and Trent Giambrone both went 2-for-4 with a double and a homer.
