Reno Aces News Release

Tonight's Game: Winners of 13 of their last 16, the Aces will look to stay hot against the Oklahoma City Dodgers tonight. Taylor Clarke will make his first start in a Reno uniform since May 20 against Tacoma after a stint with the Arizona Diamondbacks. Clarke enters the contest with a 3-1 record and 7.22 ERA over 33.2 innings pitched and seven starts. He was 4-3 with a 5.46 ERA in 14 appearances with the D-backs prior to being optioned on August 5. Clarke's 19 victories for Reno are fourth in franchise history. He set the single-season franchise record for strikeouts with 125 in 2018. The Dodgers will counter with righty Daniel Corcino who enters the matchup with an 8-4 record and 4.47 ERA over 18 games this season. Corcino earned a no-decision against Las Vegas in his last start on August 5 allowing eight earned runs on nine hits over 5.2 innings. This is the only series of the season between Reno and Oklahoma City. The Aces took 3-of-4 from the Dodgers in 2018.

Hot Wheels: Ben DeLuzio came around to score after hitting his fourth triple in an Aces uniform in the third inning of last night's ballgame. His four triples are good for second on the team with Abraham Almonte and Travis Snider. Juniel Querecuto leads the team with six triples in 95 games played. DeLuzio has played in just 27 for Reno.

Vargy: Ildemaro Vargas extended his hitting streak to 13 games with an RBI-single in the top of the third inning yesterday. A hit tonight will tie Vargas with Juniel Querecuto for the Aces longest hit-streak of 2019 (14 games). During Vargas' streak he is 27-for-64 (.422) with five doubles, 12 RBIs and 11 runs scored and a .448 on-base percentage. Vargas owns the Aces all-time hit-streak of 35 games set in 2018.

Series Win: With a win on Friday, Reno won their fifth straight series for the first time since 2014. During that stretch, Reno took series from Fresno, Salt Lake City, Tacoma, Fresno again, and Las Vegas from May 10 - June 3, 2014. They were 15-5 during the streak. However, that run had an asterisk next to it. In the middle of the streak the Aces had a series against Albuquerque that was postponed. When the final game was finally resumed, Albuquerque won and split the series a month later. During the stretch in 2019, the Aces took continuous series from Tacoma, Fresno, Iowa, Omaha, and New Orleans. Reno is 13-3 over their last 16 games.

Pinch-Hit: Josh Rojas hit the fourth pinch-hit home run of the season for Reno last night against New Orleans. Travis Snider, Cody Decker, and Tyler Heineman have also done it this season for the Aces.

Old Friend: Friday marked the second straight game a former Ace homered off their old team. On Thursday it was Tyler Heineman, yesterday it was Peter O'Brien. The big righty had 50 career home runs in a Reno uniform in 2015 and 2016 over 236 games. He hit 26 in 2015 and 24 in 2016. O'Brien has 16 homers this year for New Orleans.

PCL History: The El Paso Chihuahuas broke the Pacific Coast League modern record for home runs last night thanks to a walk-off Grand Slam off the bat of Esteban Quiroz. The long ball was the Chihuahuas' 232nd of the season, breaking the previous record of 231 set by the Omaha Golden Spikes in 1999. El Paso leads all professional baseball in home runs this season followed by the Minnesota Twins who have 226. The Reno Aces and New York Yankees are tied for third with 208 homers this season.
