Portland Sea Dogs News Release
(New Britain, CT) - 1B Lars Anderson (2-for-4, HR, 2 RBI) homered twice and LHP Felix Doubront (3-2) pitched five effective innings, leading the Sea Dogs (18-16) in a 5-4 win over New Britain (14-20) in game one of Saturday's day/night doubleheader at New Britain Stadium. Game two starts at 6:35 PM in the battle of two bullpen righties as Justin Hedrick (1-0, 5.28) takes on RHP Zach Ward (1-0, 8.22).
New Britain rallied in the bottom of the seventh inning, scoring one run off RHP Chris Province but the righty retired LF Toby Gardenhire to seal the win and earn his 1st Double-A save. Doubront scattered six hits and three runs over five frames. The lefty walked three, fanned two and stranded six baserunners.
Anderson tattooed both homers off losing pitcher RHP Cole Devries (2-3). He launched a two-out, solo-homer in the first inning and a one-out homer off the light-tower in the third inning. Portland built a 5-1 lead through three innings. The 'Dogs scored 4 of 5 runs with two outs, receiving a 2-run double by SS Argenis Diaz and a run-scoring single by LF Bubba Bell (2-for-4, RBI).
The Rock Cats scored twice in the fourth inning on a run-scoring fielder's choice by 1B Erik Lis and SS Yancarlos Ortiz's RBI single.
Portland had a hit in every inning and improved their league-leading average to .276. The Rock Cats have dropped 11 of 18 games at New Britain Stadium.
