Altoona Curve News Release

ALTOONA, PA - Through a valiant effort by the Altoona Curve grounds crew and front office staff, the team was able to play one of two scheduled contests on at Blair County Ballpark on Saturday night.

On the field, the Curve delivered to supplement the off-the-field effort, as shortstop Brian Friday led off the game with a solo blast to left field on the first pitch of the game and the Curve never looked back taking game one of a scheduled doubleheader 8-0 after trudging through a 2:28 rain delay.

Friday finished 2-for-3 with the homer and a double with two runs scored and extended his hitting streak to five.

After Friday's homer in the first the Curve scored again in the second on a Jason Delaney RBI double and added two more runs in the third when James Boone doubled home Friday and then Boone scored on a sacrifice fly. In the fourth inning the Curve continue their offensive assault scoring three more runs first on an RBI single by Delaney and then Boone singled to plate two more for a 7-0 Curve lead.

James Boone came off the bench in the third inning and went 3-for-3 with two doubles and three RBIs.

Curve starter Jared Hughes had a strong outing pitching four innings and allowing no runs on three hits with five strikeouts and reliever Eric Krebs (2-3) picked up the win after throwing two shutout innings.

Game two of the doubleheader was cancelled due to rain and it will be made up Sunday as part of an afternoon twin bill. First pitch is scheduled for 2:05 p.m. with radio coverage starting at 1:35 on ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM and the Curve Radio Network. Game one's probable starters are Mike Crotta (3-0, 3.67) for Altoona (12-22) and LHP Ryan Edell (0-0, 0.00) for Akron (25-8). For the second game RHP Yoslan Herrera (2-0, 3.29) will start for Altoona and RHP Carlton Smith (2-0, 2.65) will be on the mound for Akron.
