Connecticut Defenders News Release

NORWICH, CT- The Defenders and Fisher Cats had two games on the slate for Saturday but only finished a resumption game from April 20 due to fog. Connecticut's Brad Boyer hit a walk-off homerun to lift the Defenders (19-16) to a 1-0 win over New Hampshire in game one.

It was twenty five days ago when Defenders righty Brooks McNiven and Fisher Cats lefty, Fabio Castro each tossed five scoreless innings before rain began to fall and eventually suspended play to set up today's matchup. Both teams exchanged zeros on the scoreboard before Brandon Magee (0-1) delivered his first pitch in the bottom of the ninth inning to 2B-Brad Boyer who sent his first homerun over the right field wall.

Magee suffered his first loss of the season tossing three innings, allowed one hit, one earned run, walked one and struck out one. Defenders reliever, Ben Snyder (2-1) picked up the win tossing four scoreless innings of one hit ball, walked one and fanned three.

In the regularly scheduled game, each team batted in the first inning but that was all as a heavy fog moved over Dodd Stadium. In the home half of the first, DH-Eddy Martinez-Esteve sent a double to the right center-field gap in which neither CF-Sean Shoffit nor RF-Cody Haerther budged from their positions due to visual factor. 1B-Brett Pill who reached on a fielder's choice, scored from second to give Connecticut the 1-0 lead.

Both teams will resume action tomorrow at 12:05pm as part of a doubleheader. Game one will resume in the top of the second inning with Connecticut leading 1-0 and game two will be a seven inning ballgame. The Defenders Madison Bumgarner (1-0) will make his home debut up against the Fisher Cat's righty, Casey Janssen, who is making a MLB rehabilitation stint for the Toronto Blue Jays. In game two it will be Rei Gonzalez for New Hampshire and a TBA for Connecticut.

All tickets for today's game can be exchanged for any other 2009 Defenders home game at the Defenders Box Office. For more information or to purchase tickets, call the Defenders Box Office at (860)-887-7962 or online at ctdefenders.com.
