
Americans Sail Past Riverkings, 3-1

ALLEN, Texas- The Governors' Cup champion Allen Americans defeated the Mississippi RiverKings 3-1 tonight in front of 5,170 at the DeSoto Civic Center in Southaven, MS.
Colton Yellow Horn gave the Americans a 1-0 lead 7:43 into the first period after backhanding Dave Bonk's feed past Mississippi netminder Alexander Pechurskiy. The goal was Yellow Horn's thirty-third of the season.
The remainder of the opening period saw no further scoring despite several prime chances. Scott Campbell finished the frame with 5 saves while Pechurskiy stopped 8.
Mississippi forward Chris Auger beat Scott Campbell 8:15 into the second period to knot the score at 1, but the Americans would regain the lead just 2:58 later when Jarret Lukin deflected Justin DaCosta's blast into the back of the net. The goal was Lukin's twentieth of the season.
Through forty minutes of play, Allen held a 14-11 advantage in shots over the RiverKings.
Dave Bonk extended the Americans lead to 3-1 5:32 into the third period. Colton Yellow Horn and Brian Ihnacak were credited with the assists on the play.
The Americans defense took over for the remainder of regulation, completely shutting down the RiverKings efforts to get back into the game.
Scott Campbell was stellar in his return to the net with 19 saves on 20 shots. Campbell is now 10-2 on the season.
The Americans improve to 46-16-2 (94 points) with the win and are now just one road victory away from tying the CHL's all-time single season road record of 24-8-1.
Allen will now return home for a rematch with the RiverKings tomorrow night at 7:00 PM at the Allen Event Center.
