Texas Closes Final Regular Season Home Game in Comeback Victory
March 25, 2011 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas (March 25)- It was "Fan Appreciation Night" at the NYTEX Sports Centre on the final regular season home game for the Brahmas, and the home team gave the perfect gift with a 4-3 comeback victory over the Laredo Bucks.
It was a shorthanded goal that put Texas behind in the opening period when former Brahma Jeff Hazelwood netted his 17th of the season. Buck's tough guy Justin Styffe attempted to get things going with Brahma defenseman Derek Matheson but only to find a new seat in the penalty box for a four minute roughing call. As Matheson sat, the Brahmas powerplay went to work, and it was Mick Lawrence finding daylight and a hole top shelf with 2:32 remaining with the man advantage. Brian Matte put Laredo back ahead before the first intermission.
Following a scoreless second, a shot by Serge Dube was redirected by Daniel Koger's stick and past Wayne Savage for a Buck two goal lead. Not even two minutes would pass before Jason Krischuk would get the sold out crowd at NYTEX back on their feet when he beat Pier-Olivier Pelletier sitting on the doorstep for his ninth of the year. Greg Hogeboom potted the game tying goal at the 11:24 mark with assists from linemates Jason Deitsch and Chad Woollard.
Woollard, who was honored with a presentation for his 700th career point and game prior to the game, made the evening extra special when he gave the Brahmas their first lead of the game with five minutes left on the scoreboard to win the game.
Texas will conclude the regular season on the road with a contest against the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees at 7:35 tomorrow night followed by an afternoon match against the Laredo Bucks at 4 pm. The Brahmas are currently waiting on their opponent for the opening round of the CHL Playoffs, but will host home game 1 on Thursday, March 31 and home game 2 on Saturday, April 2.
