Missouri Rallies to Beat Killer Bees

HIDALGO, Texas- The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees (24-25-6) watch four different one-goal leads disappear on Friday night as the Missouri Mavericks (37-22-6) rallied to beat the Bees 10-5. Aaron Lee scored two goals in his return to the Bees line up while Darcy Campbell added a goal and two assists.

The first period was a back and forth affair with the two teams trading three goals apiece. Aaron Lee potted the first one for the Bees in his first game back from injury just 1:49 into the game. Lee backhanded a shot from the point that beat Mavs netminder Gerry Festa. Zak McClellan and Dan Gendur picked up the assists.

Missouri would respond at the 10:22 mark as Brandon Coccimiglio potted his first of the game beating Pagliero blocker side.

The Bees wasted no time retaking the lead as Brandon Smith scored his third of the season after taking a Tomas Klempa feed and one-timed it from the slot.

Missouri tied the game less than a minute later as Todd Griffith scored 18th of the season with an unassisted goal that beat Pagliero on the glove side.

The two teams weren't finished trading goals as just 2:01 later the Bees retook the lead as Mark Magnowski scored his first goal in a Bees uniform with a deflection of a Darcy Campbell shot from the point. Tomas Klempa picked up his second assist of the game.

Just 1:05 after the Bees took the lead for a third time Missouri scored to tie the game as Brandon Coccimiglio scored his second of the game off a feed from Cole Ruwe as the Mavericks had numbers in front of the net.

The fireworks continued in the second period as the teams combined for six goals, four of them by Missouri. The Bees took the fourth lead of the game after Aaron Lee scored his second goal of the game on the power-play at the 2:13 mark deflecting a Darcy Campbell shot past Festa.

Missouri would rally to tie the game at 6:26 with Tood Griffith's second of the game then proceeded to score the next three goals as Cole Ruwe, Simon Watson and Nathan O'Nabigon all struck for the Mavs. After the Griffith goal Jerad Kaufmann entered the game for the Bees.

The Bees would stop the Mavericks rally with just one second remaining in the period as Darcy Campbell wrapped around the back of the net and backhanded the puck past the goal line.

In the third period the Mavs would score three more goals to end the game with 10, the highest amount allowed by the Bees this season.

With Laredo losing in regulation to the Texas Brahmas tonight, the Bees magic number to clinch a playoff spot now stands a two.
