RiverKings Fall in Home Finale To Allen

SOUTHAVEN, MS --- The Mississippi RiverKings fell 3-1 to the Allen Americans in Central Hockey League action Friday, March 25th at Southaven's DeSoto Civic Center. 5,170 saw the RiverKings play its final home regular season game as it finishes up the season on the road this weekend before the Ray Miron President's Cup playoffs start for Mississippi the following weekend.

Allen scored the only goal of the first period on a rebound goal by Colton Yellow Horn, assisted by Dave Bonk and Brian Ihnacak at 7:43 to take a 1-0 lead after one period. The Americans out shot the RiverKings 9-5 in the session.

The teams traded goals in the second period for a 2-1 Allen lead going into the final period of play. Chris Auger opened the scoring for the RiverKings with his 13th red-lighter of the year, assisted by R.G. Flath and Derek Landmesser at 8:13. The goal tied the game at 1-1.

However, Allen took a 2-1 lead nearly two minutes later thanks to Jarret Lukin at 11:13, his 20th goal of the season, assisted by Justin DaCosta and Nino Musitelli. Mississippi outshot the Americans 6-5 in the period, but Allen still had a 14-11 lead on the "shot clock" going into the final period of action.

Dave Bonk provided the clincher in the third period for the Americans, netting his 19th goal of the year at 5:32, assisted by Yellow Horn and Ihnacak for the final score of 3-1.

RiverKings goaltender Alexander Pechurskiy (17-13-2) made 22 saves in the loss, while Scott Campbell won his tenth of the season (10-2-0) with 19 saves on 20 shots on net.

Neither team scored on the power play. Allen outshot the RiverKings 25-20 in the contest.

Mississippi is now 28-29-5 for the season, while the regular season champion Allen Americans moved to 46-16-2 for the year.

Prior to the game, The RiverKings Fan Club presented its post-season player award trophies, as voted on by the fans last weekend. Winning the Noah Costa Memorial MVP Award was forward Matt Summers, who also was named as the Fan Favorite and Best Offensive Player.

The Noah Costa Memorial MVP Award named in honor of the son of Maddox Foundation President Robin Costa, who died tragically earlier this year.

Other player awards given include Nathan Lutz as Best Defensive Player, Alexander Pechurskiy as Rookie of the Year, and Louis Dumont was given the Unsung Hero Award, named by his fellow teammates.

After the game, special Ole Miss-themed jerseys were auctioned off with proceeds shared between the Ole Miss Ice Rebel hockey program and the Jr. StreetKings youth inline hockey program in Hernando.

Next action for the RiverKings will be tomorrow night, when the same two teams meet at the Allen Event Center in Allen, Texas. Game time is 7:00 PM and broadcast coverage will be on Sports 56, WHBQ-AM and CHL-TV with pre-game radio coverage at 6:45 PM.
