Gems capture 3-2 win over Mallards
March 25, 2011 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Dayton Gems News Release
When the Gems took the ice on Friday night, it was the start of a two game home stand that would end the regular season.
The Gems started the home stand off on the right foot as they defeated Quad City 3-2.
Dayton jumped out to an early 3-1 lead in the second period and never looked back. Despite not scoring in the final period, Dayton still won and snapped a three game losing skid.
Tysen Dowzak opened the game with a goal in the first period. Brett Lutes and Mike Vaskivuo each assisted on the goal that gave the Gems a 1-0 lead.
In the second period, Chris Lipsett extended the lead to 2-0 with his 19th goal of the season. It was Lipsett's first goal since March 12.
After Quad City's Obi Aduba scored the Mallards' first goal of the game, Matthew Larke recorded his ninth goal of the season for the Gems. Damian Surma and Lipsett each assisted Larke on the goal that gave Dayton a 3-1 lead after two periods of play.
The Mallards attempted a comeback in the final period of the game. Mike McLean scored with less than seven minutes remaining to put the score at 3-2.
That was all the Mallards were able to manage in the third period as the Gems went on to claim the 3-2 win.
The Gems will play their last regular season game of the year on Saturday against the Mallards. The game will start at 7:30 p.m. at Hara Arena.
The Kettering Medical Center is proud to be the official title sponsor of the Gems for the 2010-11 season.
