Colorado Eagles News Release

The Colorado Eagles scored the first two goals of the contest, but fell to the Allen Americans 4-3 at the Allen Events Center on Sunday.

Colorado was assessed a penalty early in the first period and after Allen pulled goaltender Riley Gill on the delayed penalty, a bad pass from the Americans banked off the wall and careened into the empty net to give the Eagles the 1-0 lead just 3:08 into the game. Eagles defenseman Teigan Zahn received the credit for the goal, his first goal of the season. With 14:32 left in the period, forward Trent Daavettila centered a pass from the half-wall to fellow forward Kyle Ostrow who was stationed between the circles. Ostrow fired the puck upstairs to beat Gill and give the Eagles a 2-0 edge after one period.

Allen would storm back in the second period, as defenseman Aaron Gens cut through the right wing circle and put a shot through traffic that beat Eagles goaltender Jacob DeSerres, cutting the Eagles lead to 2-1 with 10:58 left in the period. The Americans would knot the game at 2-2 when forward Tristan King flicked a backhander past DeSerres wth 4:48 left in the second.

Allen would get back on the board early in the third period when forward Jonathan Parker fired home a wrister from the high-slot on the powerplay, giving Allen their first lead at 3-2 with 13:04 remaining in the contest. The Americans would net their fourth unanswered goal when forward Vincent Arseneau found a loose puck on the right wing circle and sent it over the shoulder of DeSerres and into the back of the net giving Allen the 4-2 advantage.

Colorado would pull DeSerres in favor of the extra attacker in the game's final minutes and it would pay-off, as forward Joe Zarbo threw home a rebound on top of the crease to cut the Americans lead to 4-3 with 14 seconds remaining. That would be as close as the Eagles rally would come, as they ultimately fell by a final count of 4-3.

The Eagles will be back in action on Wednesday when they play host to the Idaho Steelheads for the first time this season.

Tickets for groups of 15 or more start at just $14 per seat and can be purchased by calling the Eagles ticket office at 970-686-SHOT (7468).
