Norfolk Admirals News Release

READING, Pa. - The Norfolk Admirals gave up two more goals in the final period to lose, 4-2, to the Reading Royals Sunday evening at Santander Arena.

Alexandre Ranger scored his fifth goal of the year and first on the penalty kill with 6:34 left in the opening period. As Tommy Mele sat for a crosscheck, Ranger picked the pocket of a Reading defenseman at the Admirals' blue line, walked in on Royals netminder Martin Ouellette, and flicked a wrister top shelf to move Norfolk ahead, 1-0, at the end of the first period.

Reading found an answer via Matt Hatch on the rush at 12:48 in the second. Hatch and Joe Rehkamp led the break and Rehkamp dished left to Hatch in the slot. A sharp wrist shot gave Hatch his third goal of the season, and leveled the score at 1-1.

Two minutes and 10 seconds later, Sam Noreau scored his first goal as an Admiral. Josh Currie pushed a pass to the point and Noreau wound and fired as he crossed the blue line. Ouellette had no chance, and the recent Admirals addition lifted Norfolk back into a one-goal lead at 14:58 of the second period.

It didn't take long for the Royals to tie it up again, as the hosts lit the lamp within two minutes from Noreau's strike. Cam Reid collected the puck atop the right circle and handed off to Adam Comrie. The Reading defenseman traversed to the point and used a slap shot to beat Rimmer at 16:55 of the second period and deadlocked the score, 2-2, going into the third period.

Similar to last night, the Royals took their first lead of the night in the third thanks to Robbie Czarnik. On the power play, forward Mike Pereira moved up the left wall and shuffled a pass inside to Czarnik driving the slot. The former Admiral scooped a one-timer over Rimmer's left shoulder at 1:32, and Reading snatched a 3-2 lead.

Hatch appeared once again with 62 seconds remaining when he potted an empty-net goal to seal a 4-2 victory for Reading over Norfolk. Rimmer made 31 saves on 34 opportunities as Martin Ouellette turned aside 21 of 23 Admirals shots. The Royals converted one of their five power plays, and Norfolk went scoreless on four man advantages.

Norfolk travels north for a Wednesday morning game versus the Adirondack Thunder at 10 a.m. Listen on 1650 AM WHKT or watch live on ECHL.TV.
