Walleye Collect a Point in a 4-3 Shootout Loss

(Manchester, NH) Toledo's power play scored twice including a tying goal in the third period from A.J. Jenks but the Monarchs took a 4-3 shootout in Manchester Sunday afternoon. The Toledo has an overall record of 5-5-0-2 and is 5-4-0-2 on the road.

Manchester forward Joe Diamond beat goaltender Jeff Lerg with a wrist shot just 1:18 into the first period to put the Monarchs in front 1-0. While on the power play at 8:03, forward Alden Hirschfeld tied the game with a wrist shot from between the circles for his team-leading sixth goal of the season. Austin Wuthrich (2nd) found the back of the net on a rebound from a Ralfs Freibergs shot for a 2-1 lead.

In the second period, the Monarchs tied the game at 6:01 when Matt White sent a wrist shot that slipped through Lerg. White was at it again when he capitalized on a breakaway at 13:50 to put the Walleye behind 3-2 after two periods.

The Walleye power play tied the game with an A.J. Jenks goal at 4:52 of the period. Neither team was able to score in overtime before a ten round shootout. Shane Berschbach and Tyler Sikura scored for the Walleye in the shootout. The game winner went Austin Block who beat Lerg as the tenth shooter.

Walleye Notes: Goaltender Jeff Lerg stopped 32 of the 35 shots he faced and his record is 3-2-2 on the season. Toledo's power play finished the game 2-3.
