Wichita, KS - Andrew Courtney scored the only shootout goal in the fourth round to end a back-and-forth contest that saw Wichita (5-8-0-1) lose on Saturday night to Missouri (10-2-0-1) by the final score of 3-2 at INTRUST Bank Arena. Ian Lowe and Dalton recorded markers for the Thunder in the losing effort. Wichita earns a point, but falls to 0-5-0-1 in the Independence Cup Series.

The Thunder got off to a good start in the opening frame, breaking a trend that saw the opponent score first in the last seven games. Lowe fired a loose puck from the right circle just 1:18 into the contest that made it 1-0.

In the second, David de Kastrozza evened things at 1:58 with his second of the season

on a two-on-one shorthanded opportunity. The Thunder re-took the lead at 11:35 when Reum unloaded a rocket past Parker Milner's glove to make it 2-1.

The Mavericks were able to tie the game in the third with early goal. Kane Lafranchise put home a shot from the left circle at 2:45 to make it a 2-2 game. Neither team could find the back of the net the rest of the way and for the first time in the season-series, overtime was needed.

Both teams went back-and-forth in the overtime session. David Shantz made a terrific save late in the extra period on a two-man breakaway. The five-minute overtime period ended and the contest headed into a shootout. The only goal scored in the shootout came in the fourth round as Andrew Courtney put home a wrist shot past Shantz. Joey Sides needed to score in the bottom half, but was denied by Milner and the shootout victory.

Reum recorded two points (1g, 1a) while Sides claimed an assist in his second-consecutive game. Peter Sakaris added two helpers and leads the team in points with 10 (4g, 6a). Shantz suffers his first shootout loss of the season, stopping 26 of 28 shots. Milner took the win, stopping 19 of 21 shots he faced.

Wichita went 0-for-2 on the power play. The Mavericks were 0-for-4 on the man advantage.

The Thunder get some much needed rest before returning to home-ice to host the Allen Americans on Friday, November 20th.
