Allen Americans News Release
Allen, Texas - The Allen Americans finished up a weekend double header against the Colorado Eagles at the Allen Event Center, beating Colorado 4-3.
Looking to bounce back from a forgetful evening in their first meeting with the Eagles on Saturday, the Americans showed early promise. Allen pressure drew a Colorado penalty, however, after the goalie had already been pulled, an errant Allen pass banked off the boards and rolled all the way into an open Americans net. Riley Gill got the start in goal for the Americans, but was forced to watch the opening goal from the bench without being able to do anything about it. The goal was credited to Teigan Zahn for his first of the season. Later in the period, he was left to deal with a wide open Eagle right at the front of the net, and Kyle Ostrow made no mistake, putting it top shelf for a 2-0 Colorado lead. Allen was unable to generate any offense, and showed shades of last night, as Allen committed their fair share of turnovers and often mishandled the puck.
The second period got very heated, with three separate fights throughout the frame. Vincent Arseneau squared off with former Allen American Darryl Bootland. Following that, Johnathan Parker, Ian Schultz, and Justin Courtnall dropped the gloves against Colorado's Giffen Nyren, Teigan Zahn, and Sean Zimmerman, respectively. The Americans erased their two goal deficit with two of their own. Vincent Arseneau scored his first of the season from Aaron Gens and Rick Pinkston, while Tristan King's second of the year tied the game at two.
Johnathan Parker broke the tie with his fifth of the season and Vincent Arseneau extended the lead in the third period. Riley Gill was called upon to make a number of keys stops throughout the period, a call that he answered valiantly. Colorado poured on pressure toward the end of the period with an extra attacker, scoring to draw them within one. But as the game wound down, Gill stood tall, ensuring the victory. There was no love lost in the entire weekend series between the Americans and the Eagles. Even coach Steve Martinson joined in on it with some jawing on the bench.
The Allen Americans hit the road this upcoming week, with a Tuesday (Nov. 17) matchup against the Missouri Mavericks at 7:05 pm.
