Allen Americans News Release
Tulsa, OKLAHOMA - The Allen Americans continued their four games in five night stretch with their third contest Friday evening, taking on the Oilers on the road in Tulsa. Tulsa sits in fourth place in the Berry Conference, five points behind the Allen Americans who rank first in the Berry and first overall in the Central Hockey League with 27 points.
The Oilers drew first blood past the midway point of the first period when Dylan Clarke capitalized on the only power play of the period at 11:42; assists went to Sean Erickson and Luke Lucyk. The period ended with the Oilers holding the edge across the scoreboard, leading by a score of 1-0 and in shots on goal 11-8.
Tulsa extended their lead to 2-0 early in the second period off a goal by Michel Beausoleil, assisted by Gary Steffes at 2:05 of the middle frame. The Americans increased the pressure immediately following the Tulsa goal and dominated play for the rest of the period. Allen exploded for two goals to tie the game just 54 seconds apart five minutes after Tulsa's second of the night. First to score for Allen was Jarret Lukin at 7:37, assisted by Jim McKenzie and Colton Yellow Horn. Then Jason Deitsch brought the game level at 8:31 of the second period, assisted by Bruce Graham. The period ended with the score knotted 2-2 and Allen outshooting Tulsa 21-9 to lead in shots on goal 29-20.
Tight checking by both teams kept either from notching a goal to earn the victory in regulation, forcing the contest to overtime. Allen continued to lead in shots on goal through the close of the 3rd period, outshooting Tulsa 39-25. The stingy defensive play by both clubs carried into overtime, each allowing only a pair of shots on goal through the extra five minutes. The winner would be decided by a shootout.
The lone goal in the shootout was scored by David Solway for the Tulsa Oilers, earning the Oilers the victory by a final score of 3-2. The Americans earned one point for the regulation tie, giving them a season total of 28 points while retaining the top spot in both the conference and league standings overall.
The Americans now travel to Missouri to face the Mavericks Saturday night, the puck drops at 7:05PM.
