LAREDO, TX: The Laredo Bucks, of the Central Hockey League, defeated the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees 3-2 in a shoot-out.
The Laredo Bucks once again faced their rivals, the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees, Saturday night at the Laredo Energy Arena. The Bucks were hot off a 4-1 win over the Killer Bees on Friday night.
Laredo Bucks goaltender Torrie Jung was outstanding during the first period of play. Jung made several key saves during the frame to keep the Bees off the board. Both teams were unable to score until the Laredo Bucks Captain, Adam Rivet, was able to find the net with only 44 seconds left in the period. Matt Hanson had the lone assist on the goal that gave the Bucks a 1-0 lead to end the first period of play.
The Killer Bees quickly jumped on the board when Justin Bernhardt scored an unassisted goal at 1:21 in the second. The Bees took the lead at 5:23 when Reid Edmondson found the net. The Bucks battled back and tied the game 2-2, when David Inman went 5-hole of the Bees netminder. Rusty Masters and Matt Boyd assisted on the goal at 15:15. The rivalry between the two teams was starting to show as the period went on as both teams became more physical. The Bucks outshot the Bees 12-10 in the period.
The Bucks and Bees went scoreless in the third frame. The Bucks had a man-advantage two times during the period, but were unable to convert. The Bucks had a late penalty in the frame, but were able to hold off the Bees. Neither team was able to score during the overtime period as well.
The game came down to a shoot-out. Torrie Jung shut-out all four Killer Bees shooters while Erik Boisvert and Matt Hanson were both able to light the lamp, giving the Bucks the 3-2 victory.
