DAYTON, Ohio (December 10, 2011) - Eric Giosa and John Snowden both scored power play goals and also added two assists apiece, Brandon Marino collected three assists and Brad Fogal made 32 saves as the Quad City Mallards defeated the host Dayton Gems 4-1 Saturday night. With the win, the Mallards extended their regulation unbeaten streak to five games (4-0-1) and moved past the Gems into fourth place in the Central Hockey League's Turner Conference.

The Mallards were on the power play when Snowden opened the scoring by burying a loose puck from close range just a minute and 21 seconds into the game. The Mallards doubled the lead with just 40 seconds left in the first period while on the verge of going on the power play again- a delayed penalty was in effect against the Gems when McMillan pounced on the rebound after Dayton goaltender Larry Sterling stopped Snowden's drive from the high slot.

The Mallards emerged from the first with a 2-0 lead thanks in good part to the efforts of Fogal, who turned aside 19 Dayton shots in the opening 20 minutes.

The Quad City lead stretched to three when Giosa backhanded home the Mallards' second man advantage goal of the game just 48 seconds into the second period. Damian Surma's wrist shot from the right wing circle got the Gems on the scoreboard for the first time and cut the Quad City lead to 3-1 at 14:52 of the second.

In the third period, the Gems would get no closer before Obi Aduba scored Quad City's third power play goal into an empty 19 seconds before the final horn to cap off the win.

The Mallards, who travel to Arizona to meet the Sundogs Tuesday and Wednesday night, next play on home ice next Saturday night, December 17, at 7:05 p.m. against the Missouri Mavericks.
