
Altoona Drops Fourth Straight 9-6 To Akron

ALTOONA, PA - The Curve dropped their fourth straight game Wednesday night falling to the Akron Aeros (AA-Cleveland Indians) 9-6 in the middle game of three at Blair County Ballpark.
Miles Durham singled in Jonel Pacheco to finish off a two run first inning for Altoona. Akron would respond with three runs in the third on five hits with Carlos Santana, Josh Rodriguez, and Lonnie Chisenhall driving home runs.
The Curve answered back in the fourth inning with two runs as CF Gorkys Hernandez singled home the go-ahead run to give Altoona a 4-3 advantage.
Akron (84-53) evened the game on a wild pitch in the sixth inning before blowing it open with four runs in the seventh as Carlos Rivero brought two home on a single to put Akron ahead 8-4.
Pacheco finished the night 2-for-5 for his sixth consecutive game with multiple hits and the eighth time in his last 10 games. Brian Friday also had two hits on the night breaking out of an 0-for-18 slump with a 2-for-4 night with two RBIs
Curve starter Mike Crotta tossed 5.2 innings allowing four runs on eight hits with four strikeouts. Jared Hughes (1-6) was saddled with his sixth loss of the season after allowing two runs on three hits in 0.2 innings of work.
Altoona (60-77) and Akron finish up their series Thursday night at BCB. Game time is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. with radio coverage starting at 6:05 p.m. on ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM and the Altoona Curve Radio Network. Probable starters for Thursday's contest are LHP Kyle Bloom (6-8, 3.96) for the Curve and LHP Eric Berger (2-1, 3.18) for the Aeros.
It will be the final home game for the Curve in 2009 on Thursday. To celebrate the home the season the Curve are having a Field of Dreams night where players will emerge from the corn fields as they did in the classic film. Following the introduction players will be roaming throughout the ballpark to greet and thank fans for their support this year. At the conclusion of the game there will be a spectacular fireworks display to bring the 2009 season to a close at Blair County Ballpark.
