
Humberto Sanchez And Eric Wordekemper Both Promoted To Triple-A

(Portland, ME)- The Trenton Thunder, Double-A Affiliate of the New York Yankees, have announced that RHP Humberto Sanchez and RHP Eric Wordekemper have both been promoted from Trenton to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (Triple-A). RHP Philip Bartleski has been promoted from Tampa (High-A) to Trenton. And, RHP David Trahan has been signed by the Yankees and assigned to Trenton
Wordekemper has split time with Trenton and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this season. He was 1-2 with a 3.00 ERA in 28 games with one save. He is 2-0 with a 5.06 ERA in seven games for the Yankees, including one save. In 2008, he split the season between Tampa and Trenton. He went 3-2 with a 3.93 ERA and six saves for the Thunder in 33 games. He was 0-0 with a 10.80 ERA in two games for Tampa. Wordekemper was originally drafted by the Yankees in the 46th round of the 2005 draft.
Sanchez has split the season between Tampa and Trenton. With the Thunder, he was 2-0 with a 3.72 ERA in 12 games with one save. He had a streak of nine straight games without allowing an earned run for the Thunder (7/28-8/24). In nine appearances for Tampa, the right-hander went 0-1 with a 4.76 ERA. In 2008, Sanchez spent most of the season with the Gulf Coast League Yankees, and appeared in 12 games (nine starts). He was 0-1 with a 2.31 ERA. He also made one appearance for the Thunder, and two appearances with the New York Yankees. The Bronx, New York native was acquired by the Yankees from the Detroit Tigers along with RHP Kevin Whelan and RHP Anthony Claggett in exchange for OF Gary Sheffield on 11/10/06.
Bartleski has split the season between Tampa (High-A), Staten Island (SS), and the GCL Yankees. With Tampa, he was 4-1 with a 2.86 ERA in 16 games with one save. He made two appearances with Staten Island, and one appearance with the GCL Yankees. In 2008, he was 2-1 with a 1.64 ERA in 29 games for Tampa, with one save. He struck out 60 in 55 innings. Opponents only batted .179 against him. He was originally signed by the Yankees as a non-drafted free agent on 5/23/07.
Trahan was signed by the Yankees from Sioux City (IND). For the Explorers, he was 6-5 with a 2.35 ERA in 35 games. Opponents were only hitting .235 against him. During 2008, he played for Kansas City (IND) and had a 2-3 record with a 5.45 ERA in 35 games. He was originally selected by the Expos in the in the 11th round of the 2004 draft. He advanced as high as Double-A Harrisburg. In 2007 with the Senators, he was 0-0 with a 2.89 ERA in 15 games.
Trenton and Portland play the middle game of their three-game series on Wednesday night from Hadlock Field. RHP Josh Schmidt (8-3, 1.51) will start for Trenton against Portland RHP Blake Maxwell (5-8, 5.33). Game time is set for 6:00 p.m.
