Rock Cats Receive New Player For 2009 Stretch Run

September 2, 2009 - Eastern League (EL1)
New Britain Rock Cats News Release

New Britain, CT - The New Britain Rock Cats will receive a new player today - 23-year-old-INF/OF Ramon Santana - to bolster their roster as they attempt to reach the Eastern League Playoffs for the first time since 2003. The versatile newcomer will fill the roster vacancy created by yesterday's departure of Rene Tosoni, the 2009 EL All-Star who left for Europe to join Team Canada in the World Baseball Cup tournament.

While slight in stature - the native of La Ramona, Venezuela is 5'9" and weighs just 152 pounds - Ramon Santana carries a big bat, as he was the leading hitter (.296) on the team he departs, the Beloit Snappers of the Single-A, Midwest League.

Signed by New Britain's parent club, the Minnesota Twins, as a non-drafted Free Agent in November of 2004, the right-handed hitter and thrower is in his fifth season of professional ball. Capable of playing both Infield and Outfield positions, Santana will be making his first visit to the Double-A level when he arrives in Connecticut today.

In 103 games with Beloit this season, the lithe Santana collected 110 Hits, including 25 Doubles, 3 Triples, and 9 HRs; he also scored 46 Runs and knocked in 60.
