New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
Norwich, CT- Kenny Rodriguez worked six solid innings, allowing just one run on seven hits, and Moises Sierra went 2-for-4 with his first Double-A multi-hit game, but the Connecticut Defenders squeaked out a 1-0 victory over the New Hampshire Fisher Cats on Wednesday night at Dodd Stadium.
Connecticut (80-56) snapped a scoreless tie in the bottom of the fourth inning when Jackson Williams (1-for-2, 2B, BB, RBI) laced a two-out run-scoring double into the left-centerfield gap off Rodriguez, scoring Brandon Crawford (2-for-4, R) for a 1-0 lead. That's all the Defenders would score against Rodriguez (4-4), who suffered the tough-luck loss.
Garrett Broshuis (5-4), who became the first pitcher to ever make 17 starts against the Fisher Cats (63-74) in his career, pitched six scoreless frames to earn the win. The right-hander scattered six hits, notched five strikeouts and walked one, improving his career record against New Hampshire to 8-4.
Shane Kaufman worked 2.1 scoreless innings of relief before Matt Yourkin recorded the final two outs to notch his eighth save.
Trystan Magnuson pitched two perfect innings of relief for the Fisher Cats, and he has yet to allow a run in five appearances (10 innings) as a member of the New Hampshire bullpen.
New Hampshire and Connecticut meet for the final time this season on Thursday night at 6:35pm in the rubber game of their three-game series at Dodd Stadium. The Fisher Cats send right-hander Adrian Martin (3-2, 4.24) to the mound, where he will oppose Defenders' righty Geivy Garcia (2-3, 4.70). Radio coverage gets underway at 6:15pm with the BayRing Pre-Game Show on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network with Mike Murphy.
