
Almonte, Nuno and Garcia Extend Streak to Eight

(Bowie, MD) - The Thunder extended their longest wining streak of the year to eight games on Friday with a 10-6 victory over Bowie. Zoilo Almonte once again delivered for Trenton, launching his 15th homerun of the year and Vidal Nuno struck out nine in five innings to earn the win.
Adonis Garcia made his Double-A debut for Trenton and smacked four hits, including two doubles with two runs scored. Jose Pirela also contributed with three hits as Trenton (68-44) pounded out 12 hits overall to take the first game of a three-game series.
Nuno (7-2) continued to look sharp as he allowed three runs on five hits with two walks on the night. Kelvin Perez tossed two innings in relief and Graham Stoneburner and Jon Meloan each pitched an inning to finish the contest.
Trenton took advantage of consecutive errors to begin the game and four Bowie errors overall. Addison Maruszak brought home the first run on a sacrifice fly and Almonte connected off Gamboa with a blast to right field. The Thunder scored in at least one run in each of the first four innings en route to the win.
Trenton took a 10-4 lead in the eighth inning as Garcia rolled an infield single with the bases loaded and Manny Machado threw the ball away to empty the bases. Bowie countered with two runs in the bottom of the inning on a two-run homerun from Caleb Joseph.
Trenton and Bowie will play game two of the three game series on Saturday at 6:35 pm. RHP Craig Heyer (2-4, 4.59) will start for Trenton against LHP Rick Zagone (3-2, 3.56) for Bowie. Radio coverage on 91.3 FM (WTSR) and also streaming online begins at 6:20 pm.
