New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
MANCHESTER, N.H. - Koby Clemens belted a two-run double and Brian Bocock drove home two runs, but the Fisher Cats (43-70) couldn't overcome a five-run first inning, losing their series opener to the Akron Aeros (67-45), 7-4, on Friday night at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium. The loss leaves New Hampshire 27 games under .500, their low point of the 2012 season.
Akron busted out for five runs in the top of the first against Fisher Cats starter Deck McGuire (5-12), putting the first three men on base for a 1-0 lead. After a walk and an infield pop-up, McGuire surrendered a grand slam to Juan Diaz to push the lead to 5-0 after just six batters.
McGuire settled down after that, retiring the final two batters in the first and all three he faced in the second. After a bumpy start in the third, McGuire struck out the side, stranding runners at first and third. The right-hander would pitch into the sixth, allowing six total runs while striking out five.
Clemens started the Fisher Cats rally in the bottom of the fifth. With runners at first and second with two outs, Clemens smashed a two-out double to deep left center cutting the deficit to 5-2.
Another rally in the seventh, highlighted by a Bocock sac fly, brought the Fisher Cats back to within three runs. But Akron answered in the eighth to push the lead back to 7-3.
New Hampshire tried one more rally in the ninth, loading the bases up with nobody out against Shawn Armstrong. Bocock brought home one run on a force out. After Clemens struck out, John Tolisano was retired, stranding two runners on the bases.
Clemens finished the night 1-4 with a pair of RBI. Bocock drove in two runs while Brad Glenn scored twice. Ryan Goins increased his hits total to 129, leaving him 29 shy of the team record with 29 games to go.
The series continues with the middle game on Saturday night beginning at 7:05 PM. The game features Atlas Fireworks. The first 1,000 kids will receive a Webkinz Bulldog courtesy of Northeast Delta Dental. For a full list of promotions for the remainder of the homestand, visit www.nhfishercats.com.
