Fisher Cats Fall in 17 Innings

(Manchester, NH)---The Fisher Cats scored four runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to tie, tied the game again in the bottom of the 11th, but finally fell in the longest game in the history of Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.

Erie pushed across two runs in the top of the 17th inning early Friday morning to beat New Hampshire 9-7 in a contest which ended at 12:45am. The game took five hours, 39 minutes to play.

Jordan Lennerton (3-for-6, 3 RBI) doubled home Niuman Romero, who had walked, to break the tie. He scored on a double by Rawley Bishop off losing pitcher Chorye Spoone (2-2).

Trailing 6-2 going to the bottom of the ninth inning, Ryan Goins and Ryan Schimpf each hit two run homers to force extra innings. Kevin Howard hit the first pitch of the bottom of the 11th inning for a home run to tie the game at 7-7 after Erie had taken the lead in the top of the 11th on a sacrifice fly by Jamie Johnson.

Michael Morrison (3-3) earned the win in relief for the SeaWolves (50-61). He retired all six batters he faced, striking out five.

John Tolisano opened the bottom of the first inning with a triple, scoring on a sacrifice fly by Jake Marisnick to put New Hampshire (43-69) in front 1-0.

Erie took the lead in the top of the third inning, putting together three consecutive singles to start the frame. Brandon Douglas, who beat out a bunt, moved to second on a single by James McCann (4-for-7). Johnson (2-for-7, 3 RBI) singled Douglas home to tie the game at 1-1. After Niuman Romero (2-for-6, RBI) walked to load the bases, Lennerton hit a sacrifice fly to put the SeaWolves in front.

Erie also scored a run on three consecutive singles in the fifth, this time with two outs. Romero scored from second on a single by Lennerton to make it 3-1.

The Fisher Cats put a run on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning. Sean Ochinko singled, moved to third on a double by Brian Bocock, and scored on a ground out by Brad McElroy.

Erie appeared to put the game out of reach with three runs in the top of the sixth inning. McCann had an RBI double, Johnson singled McCann home and Romero doubled to extend the lead to 6-2.

Fernando Hernandez started the game for the Fisher Cats, working into the sixth. He allowed eight hits and five runs (three earned). He walked one and struck out two. New Hampshire received strong relief outings from Trystan Magnuson (two scoreless frames) and Michael Dubee (no runs allowed in three innings).

The Fisher Cats open a three-game series with Western Division-leading Akron on Friday night at 7:05pm. An Atlas Fireworks Show will follow the game and there will be a Scout Sleepover following the contest. For tickets and information, visit www.nhfishercats.com ==].
