Alen, Mazzola and Roberson Grab Year-End Awards

WINNIPEG - The Winnipeg Goldeyes handed out some hardware prior to tonight's final regular season game.

Outfielder Chris Roberson and infielder/outfielder Josh Mazzola have been named co-winners of the Budweiser Most Valuable Player Award, based on the player of the game selections by the media during the season.

Roberson, 33, is hitting .319 in 93 games this season. He has 11 home runs, 79 RBI and has stolen a team-high 36 bases, which is tied for third in the American Association.

Mazzola, 26, leads the Goldeyes with 18 home runs, 76 RBI and 25 doubles, while hitting .307 in 97 games. His 18 home runs are tied for third in the league. He also has a .537 slugging percentage.

Catcher Luis Alen has been awarded the Rogers Player of the Year Award, as voted by the fans.

Alen, 27, hit .327 in 98 games with the Goldeyes this season, including catching an amazing 95 games. He had five home runs and 49 RBI. Defensively, he posted a .994 fielding percentage and threw out 23 percent of stolen base attempts against him. Alen also won this award in 2010.
