
Saints Season Ends with 10-4 Loss to Wingnuts

ST. PAUL, MN (September 3, 2012) - The closing act of the 2012 season came to a close for the St. Paul Saints, a 10-4 loss to the Wichita Wingnuts at Midway Stadium in front of 3,563.
The Saints finished the season 52-48, their 13th winning season in the franchises 20 season history. A strong start to the ballgame accounted for a three run first inning when Jim Rapoport singled, went to second on a passed ball and scored on a triple from Adam Frost to make it 1-0 Saints. Frost scored on a single by Joe Spiers to make it 2-0. Spiers stole second, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a single by Miles Durham to make it 3-0.
The Wingnuts, the Central Division Champs, didn't waste any time tying the game scoring three in the second when they loaded the bases on a walk to CJ Ziegler, a single by Greg Porter and a walk to Wilson Bautista. Jesse Mier was hit by a pitch that forced in a run to make it 3-1. With one out Steve Stanley knocked home two with a single tying it at three.
The Wingnuts took the lead for good in the third when John Rodriguez singled, stole second and scored on a two out double by Bautista to give the Wingnuts a 4-3 lead.
The Wingnuts took a 5-3 lead in the fourth when Ryan Khoury doubled, stole third and scored when catcher Jon Hurst's throw went into left field.
The Saints final run of the season came in the fourth when Hurst walked, moved to second on a single by Jake Krause. The two moved up on a wild pitch and then pitcher Anthony Claggett, who was the designated hitter for the game, singled home Hurst to make it 5-4.
