Peoria Chiefs News Release
Peoria, IL - The Peoria Chiefs managed only three hits and one late run in their 4-1 loss to the Beloit Snappers Monday night at Peoria Chiefs Stadium. The loss ended the Chiefs three-game winning streak, dropping them to an even 3-3 this season with one game left on the homestand.
On a night in which runs were hard to come by, three fourth-inning scores against Hector Hernandez would be plenty for the Snappers. John Wooten led off the frame with a single, and two batters latter Bruce Maxwell III drove him in with his first home run of the year. The play, originally ruled a double, was overturned following a short conversation between umpires. The next hitter, Renato Nunez, homered on the first pitch of his at bat. The two long balls were the first allowed by the Chiefs this season.
Maxwell did damage latter in the game as well. In the eighth inning, with Aaron Shipman on second and Wooten on first, Maxwell singled to left field platting Shipman. It was his third RBI of the night and put the Snappers on top 4-0.
The Chiefs scored their first and only run in the ninth inning. With one out Michael Swinson tripled to deep right field, the first triple for the Chiefs this season. Breyvic Valera drove him in on a 4-3 fielder's choice, ending the shut out. Ryan Dull got Patrick Wisdom to line out to second to end the game.
Hector Hernandez (0-1) took the loss for the Chiefs despite pitching six innings, the most of any Chiefs pitcher this season. He allowed three runs on four hits while striking out three. Joe Donofrio allowed one run on two hits over two innings of work while striking out one. Dixon Llorens threw a perfect ninth inning with a strikeout for the Chiefs. Raul Alcantara (1-1) earned the win for the Snappers, tossing seven scoreless innings and only allowing one hit with six strikeouts.
