Burlington Bees News Release
BURLINGTON, IOWA- Michael Bolaski belted a two-run double with the bases loaded in the eighth to break a 4-4 tie and give the Burlington Bees a 6-4 victory over a previously undefeated Quad Cities River Bandits squad.
Lance McCullers (1-1), a first-round selection in last year's draft by the Houston Astros, entered this evening having thrown five scoreless innings. The Bees got to the highly touted prospect in the eighth. Sherman Johnson singled to start the inning and Kyle Johnson reached on a throwing error by McCullers. After Wade Hinkle was intentionally walked with one out, Bolaski came through with a clutch double to give the Bees a two-run lead.
The Burlington Bees (3-3) brought the power on Tuesday night at Community Field, belting three home runs in a back and forth affair in Burlington. The River Bandits entered the game undefeated and had not trailed the entire season, but that changed in the second when Chevy Clarke hit the first Bees home run of the season. Clarke deposited a two-run home run off of Daniel Minor over the center field wall to give Burlington a 2-1 lead. Minor surrendered four runs in his five innings.
Quad Cities took the lead right back in the third when Jesse Wierzbicki singled home Carlos Correa and Roberto Pena sacrificed home Chase Davidson. Brandon Love allowed three runs in 4.1 innings, giving up four hits and walking five batters.
Once again, the Bees went deep in the third, as Wendell Soto hit a bomb over the right field wall to tie the game at 3-3. Andrew Ray hit a solo home run in the fifth to give the Bees a brief lead, until the River Bandits scored one in the seventh on a sacrifice bunt by Ryan Dinenn.
Burlington will host Quad Cities in the final game of the series on Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m. Ryan Crowley will get the start for Burlington against Mike Hauschild.
