LONG BEACH, Calif. - Kimbi Daniels scored two goals, including the game-winner and Peter Metcalf made a game-saving stop to preserve a 3-1 Alaska victory at Long Beach Wednesday night.

The Aces again grabbed the early lead, scoring first for the 32nd time in their 43 games. Corbin Schmidt ripped a slap shot just underneath the crossbar at 4:47 of the opening frame for a 1-0 edge, and Daniels made it 2-0 by finishing off a perfect touch pass from Ryan Gaucher (who extended his points streak to 14 games) at 9:14 with Alaska on a power play. The Aces have scored 13 goals with the man advantage over the course of their current seven-game winning streak.

Trailing 2-0 midway through the second period, the Ice Dogs began to gain the upper hand, trimming the lead to 2-1 on a power play goal by Shawn McAslan with 5:39 left in the frame. But Matt Underhill, who finished with 30 stops, would not allow the equalizer, coming up with several clutch saves over the final 25 minutes, and Metcalf cleared the one puck that got by him off the goal line with about three minutes left in regulation. Daniels snapped home an empty netter with 12.2 seconds left to seal the win, which ended a nine-game unbeaten streak for Long Beach and extended Alaska's lead in the West Division to three points over idle Las Vegas.

The Aces (34-6-3) travel to Pacific Division cellar-dweller Stockton for two games against the Thunder Friday and Saturday night at 6:00 p.m. AST. While Alaska beat Stockton in three straight games at Sullivan Arena two weeks ago, the Thunder have since gone unbeaten in their last four tilts (2-0-2). All Alaska Aces games are broadcast live on KFQD AM 750 and at www.alaskaaces.com. In addition, all home games and selected road contests will be available on a pay-per-view basis on the internet, courtesy of B2 Networks.
