Wranglers' McBain Named HOK Sport Plus Performer Of The Month

PRINCETON, N.J. - Las Vegas defenseman Mike McBain is the HOK Sport ECHL Plus Performer of the Month after leading the league with a plus-minus rating of +12 in January.

In his ninth professional season, the 29-year-old was plus in 10 games and even or plus in all but one of his 12 games in January and scored eight points (0g-8a) to help Las Vegas go 9-2-1 and move within one point of first place in the West Division with a 32-7-4 record.

Selected in the second round (30th overall) in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft by the Tampa Bay Lightning, McBain has 14 points (1g-13a) and 43 penalty minutes and was even or plus in 32 of his first 43 games this season.

A member of the Wranglers since their inaugural season in 2003-04, McBain has 54 points (8g-46a) and 203 penalty minutes in 175 regular season games and two assists and eight penalty minutes in five Kelly Cup Playoff games for Las Vegas.

He played in the NHL with Tampa Bay in 1997-98 and 1998-99 registering seven assists and 22 penalty minutes in 64 games with the Lightning.

The 6-foot-2 and 210-pound McBain played with Red Deer in the Western Hockey League from 1993-97 and had 141 points (31g-110a) and 219 penalty minutes in 253 regular season games and 15 points (2g-13a) and 19 penalty minutes in 29 playoff games.

The native of Kimberley, British Columbia played in the American Hockey League with Adirondack and Quebec and had 29 points (7g-22a) in 145 regular season games and two penalty minutes in three playoff games. He also played in the International Hockey League with Chicago, Cleveland and Detroit, scoring 10 points (2g-8a) in 57 games, and two seasons in England where he had 33 points (7g-26a) in 77 regular season games and three points (1g-2a) in 22 playoff games for Bracknell.
