Victoria Salmon Kings News Release

Victoria, BC - The Victoria Salmon Kings had a visit from the American Conference Augusta Lynx at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre for the first time in history. The Lynx were declawed 4-3, with Steve Lingren leading the way with a four point night.

At 4:27 into the first period, Augusta opened the scoring with a power play goal from Winger Anthony Battaglia, after he scooped up a rebound from Victoria Netminder B.J. Boxma.

Augusta out shot Victoria 6-0 four minutes into the first, and throughout the period; however when the Salmon Kings took a shot they made it count.

Steve Lingren evened the score at one a piece with a zinger from the top of the circle after a feed from Ryan Wade on the Salmon Kings power play. Adam Taylor, who tacked on goal number two for the Salmon Kings with a five-hole sneaker during a two-on-one with just less than six minutes remaining in the first frame. Despite being out shot 9-6, Victoria was ahead at the first intermission 2-1.

The second period started with banging along the boards from both teams, and the Salmon Kings closed down on defense and gave the Lynx little opportunity for a clear shot on net.

It was not until 8:54 into the second period that Steve Roberts popped in a loose puck from a Steve Lingren shot, to give Victoria a 3-1 lead. With the Salmon Kings turning up the pressure, they took the shot lead 19-13 with 4:00 remaining in the second stanza.

With a 1:44 to go before the period ending buzzer, Augusta inched within one of the Salmon Kings with another power play goal-this marker from newly acquired Centre Joel Stepp.

The Salmon Kings held the Augusta attack in the third period until Sam Ftorek found Martin Lapointe, who slipped the puck past Boxma to tie the game at 3-3 with 5:27 remaining in regulation. Less than a minute and a half later, the crowd of 3,731 at Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre roared as Victoria Forward Adam Huxley scored his first goal with the team and secured the Salmon King win.

Victoria went 1 for 4 with the man advantage, and Augusta scored twice on five power play attempts.

Boxma grabbed his second win of the season, while Jason Wolfe suffered his 14th loss. Victoria out shot Phoenix 34 to 23.
