Aerodynamics...

- Long Ball Not Enough...The Aeros got off to a quick start in yesterday's quick-turnaround, 10:30 a.m. game with Binghamton, but couldn't muster any offense outside of solo home runs from 3B Wes Hodges and LF Nathan Panther as the B-Mets prevailed 7-2 in 10 innings. Akron starter David Huff was electric in the early going, holding Binghamton to three hits over five shutout innings while also setting an Aeros season high with eight strikeouts. RHP J.D. Martin couldn't hold the lead however, surrendering the two tying runs on a two-out base hit by Mike Carp in the eighth. The Aeros had a chance to win it in regulation, as 2B Brandon Chaves drew a walk to open the bottom of the ninth and went to second on a sacrifice, but he was stranded there. The Mets then put it away in the 10th against Wisconsin native Scott Roehl, using a two-run double from Nick Evans and a three-run homer from Josh Petersen for the final margin. The Aeros finished with just three hits in the game, a season-low.

- Extending in Style...Both Hodges and Panther extended their hitting streaks to eight games yesterday morning, as Hodges drilled his third home run in two games in the bottom of the second and Panther added his first of the year into the right field bleachers in the fifth. Hodges is hitting .364 (12-33) over his streak with a double, a triple, four homers, nine runs scored and 13 RBI (with a career-high seven of those RBI coming in Tuesday's victory over Binghamton). Panther, meanwhile, is hitting .296 (8-27) over his streak and has recorded a hit in every game he's played this season. He has collected three doubles and homer, scored 10 runs, and driven in seven over his current run, and his five walks give him an on-base percentage of .406 over the length of his streak.

- Stuck in Neutral...Akron got some bad news this morning, as it was learned OF Stephen Head broke a bone in his right (non-throwing) wrist Tuesday. Head and the doctors were actually happy with the result however, because the break is minor enough that it will not require surgery. He is expected to miss a minimum of two weeks, and this latest setback comes after he missed the start of the season recovering from a torn labrum in his right shoulder. Head was hitting .357 in five games. When asked how he broke the bone, Head said it happened while sliding into second base on a steal attempt and added with a rueful smile, "I guess that's why they say speed kills." Head had 12 career stolen bases in 315 games coming into this season. For the record, he was safe Tuesday.

- Pinckney and the Brain...IF Brandon Pinckney, a 12th-round pick in 2003, will replace Head on the active roster.
