Altoona Curve News Release
ALTOONA- The Altoona Curve capitalized on a myriad of defensive miscues by Erie as they blew by the SeaWolves, 6-1, Thursday night at Blair County Ballpark.
Yoslan Herrera (1-1) secured his first win of the year, pitching five solid innings and striking out five batters. Herrera surrendered just one run, a home run leading off the top of the fourth inning to Erie's Jeff Frazier to put the SeaWolves up 1-0.
The Curve (6-8) countered in a big way as they picked up three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning without recording a hit. Defensive miscues by Erie starter Luke French (0-2) and catcher Max St. Pierre jump-started the Curve offense. A leadoff walk in the frame to Milver Reyes and a bunt by Brian Finegan was juggled by French to put two on with no one out. James Boone also followed with a bunt which was picked up by St. Pierre and thrown errantly down the right field line to allow Reyes to score. A wild pitch by French allowed Finegan to come across with the Curve's second run before Melvin Dorta's sacrifice fly plated Boone to cap the scoring and put Altoona up 3-1.
Altoona padded their lead in the bottom of the sixth off French. Jason Delaney led off the inning with a triple and came in to score on an RBI double by Luis Cruz, who finished the night with two runs batted in. Boone later knocked in Delaney with an RBI single to extend the Curve advantage to 5-1.
Off of Erie reliever Marcelo Perez in the seventh inning, Altoona capped off their scoring for the night. Brad Corley led off the inning with a single and eventually scored on a fielder's choice putting the Curve up by a 6-1 count.
Altoona returns to action Friday night at 6:35 p.m. for the second game of the four-game set against Erie, sending Corey Hamman (0-2, 3.86) who will make his first start of the year. He'll be opposed by Andrew Kown (1-1, 8.10) for the SeaWolves (7-8).
Great seats for Friday's game and the remaining games of the Curve's seven-game homestand are still available and can be obtained by calling 877-99-CURVE, by stopping by the Blair County Ballpark Box Office, or by logging on to AltoonaCurve.com.
