Portland Sea Dogs News Release

The Portland Sea Dogs today made the following roster moves:

LHP Daniel Haigwood transferred to the Single-A Lowell roster.

INF Aaron Bates placed on the Temporary Inactive List.

LHP Kyle Fernandes received from Single-A Lowell

C Sandy Madera received from Single-A Lowell.

Fernandes, a Westport, Massachusetts native, set career highs with 4 wins and 40 appearances between stops at Single-A Greenville, Double-A Portland, and Single-A Lancaster in 2007. The 22 year-old, was selected by the Red Sox in the 12th round of the June 2005 draft.

Madera spent the majority of the 2007 season with the New Jersey Jackals of the CanAM League where he hit 21 home runs with 75 RBI's in 86 games. Madera, 27, played in the Eastern League in 2006 with the Bowie Baysox. He was signed by the Red Sox in April 2008. He was originally signed as a non-drafted free agent by Oakland in 1998.

Notes:

Wednesday's Sea Dogs game against the Connecticut Defenders was the longest game in franchise history both in terms of innings (17) and time (5:41).

Jay Johnson became the first Sea Dog position player to earn a win in team history. It was the tenth time in team history that a position player has been called upon to pitch and the first time that the Sea Dogs won the game. Johnson joins Chris Malinsoki and Raul Nieves as the only position players to make multiple appearances as a pitcher.

The last three Portland Sea Dogs' walk-off wins have come off the bat of Jay Johnson. Last night he delivered a RBI double in the bottom of the 17th inning. In 2007 he had the game-winning hit in both of Portland's walk-off wins (August 11 at Fenway -2 run double and August 30 vs. Trenton - RBI single).
