Milwaukee Admirals News Release
Peoria, IL--Atte Engren turned aside 29 shots to lead the Milwaukee Admirals to a 3-2 win over the Rivermen in Peoria Saturday night.
Engren's biggest save came in the final minutes of the game when he kicked his right pad to stop Peoria sniper Brett Sterling's breakaway.
Milwaukee improved to 4-0 this season against the Rivermen and 3-0 at Carver Arena.
Milwaukee got on the board at 9:28 of the first period. Defenseman Teemu Laakso sent a pass from the right wing boards into the slot for Joel Champagne. Champagne tipped the puck to the left post where Mark Van Guilder buried it for his third goal of the season.
Peoria tied the game at 8:15 of the third period with a power play goal by Jonathan Cheechoo. Cheechoo picked up a turnover and fired a shot from the left circle for his seventh goal of the season.
With 5:10 to play, Milwaukee reclaimed the lead on a power play goal from Zack Stortini. Laakso sent a shot from the right circle on net. Goalie Jake Allen made the save but Stortini stuffed the rebound for his third goal of the season and first on the power play. Laakso and Ryan Ellis recorded the assists.
Just 13 seconds later, Laakso went to the penalty box for interference and Peoria evened the score once again at 15:10. T.J. Hensick fired a wrist shot from the left circle past a Cheechoo-screened Engren for his seventh of the season.
The Admirals scored the game-winner just 29 seconds after the score was tied. Jani Lajunen's shot from the slot went behind the Peoria net. With Allen following the play, Ryan Thang passed the puck into the slot for Gabriel Bourque to plant for his second goal of the season.
