
P-Bruins Earn Point in Shootout

Manchester, NH - The Providence Bruins earned a point, but fell to the Manchester Monarchs in a shootout 5-4 Saturday evening at the Verizon Wireless Arena. The P-Bruins got their goals in regulation from Craig Cunningham, Jordan Caron and two goals from Josh Hennessy and in the shootout from Jamie Arniel. The P-Bruins are back at the Dunkin' Donuts Center Friday for T-Shirt Night at 7:05 p.m. against the Monarchs.
Manchester took a 1-0 lead at the 16:38 mark of the opening period, while on a 5-on-3 man-advantage. David Kolomatis tallied his fourth goal of the season with Justin Azevedo and Andrew Campbell recording the assists. The Monarchs led 1-0 going into the first intermission.
The P-Bruins tied the game at one at the 8:57 mark of the second period, while on the power play. Matt Bartkowski worked the puck through the neutral zone and fed Caron in the slot. He put a shot on net and Cunningham was there to score off the rebound, his third goal of the season. Providence took its first lead of the game at the 11:22 mark. David Warsofsky held the puck at the left point and worked it around the boards behind the net for Hennessy. He sent a centering pass into the slot, where Caron picked it up and scored his first goal of the season. The Monarchs tied the game at two at the 16:40 mark. Azevedo netted his fifth goal of the season, while Dwight King and Campbell picked up the assists. The game went into the second intermission tied at two.
Providence retook the lead at the 5:00 mark of the third period. Steven Kampfer sent the puck out of the P-Bruins zone to Cunningham in the neutral zone. He skated the puck down the right boards before passing it to Hennessy in the high slot. Hennessy fired the puck into the back of the net for his seventh goal of the season. Manchester tied the game at three with a power play goal at the 7:40 mark. Brandon Kozun scored his sixth goal of the season, while Nick Deslauriers and Robbie Czarnik had the assists. The Monarchs took the lead at the 8:51 mark. David Mecklertallied his sixth goal of the season, while Deslauriers and Marc-Andre Cliche got the assists. Providence tied the game at four with a 5-on-3 power play goal at the 18:23 mark. Warsofsky had the puck at the blue line and fed it to Carter Camper at the side of the net. He found Hennessy backdoor, who scored his eighth goal of the season. The game went into overtime tied at four.
After a scoreless overtime in which each team had a power play, the game went into a shootout. Linden Vey scored in the first round for Manchester and Jordan Nolan scored in round three. Arnel scored in round three as well for the P-Bruins, but in round four Cliche clinched the 5-4 shootout victory for the Monarchs with a goal.
Anton Khudobin stopped 34 of 38 shots in regulation and one of four shots in the shootout for the P-Bruins, while Martin Jones made 37 saves in regulation and three saves in the shootout for the Monarchs. The P-Bruins were 2-for-6 on the power play and 4-for-6 on the penalty kill.
