Peoria Rivermen News Release
The Peoria Rivermen fought back twice to tie the game in the third period but the Milwaukee Admirals had the answer and beat the Rivermen 3-2 at Carver Arena on Saturday night. The Admirals swept the weekend series and improved to 4-0-0 this season against the Rivermen.
The Admirals scored the first goal of the game midway through opening frame courtesy of Mark Van Guilder's third of the year. At the 9:28 mark, Teemu Laakso grabbed the puck from the top of the right circle and fed it to Van Guilder who was alone at the far post.
After a scoreless second, Peoria used the power play to even the score at 8:15 of the third period. Less than 30 seconds after Gabriel Bourque was penalized for delay of game, Derek Nesbitt found Jonathan Cheechoo down low as Cheechoo came around the back of the net. From the left side, Cheechoo went top shelf past Admirals' goaltender Ante Engren.
Zack Stortini restored the Admirals lead on the power play at 14:50. Following Teemu Laakso's shot from the bottom of the right circle, Stortini jammed in the rebound for his third goal of the season.
T.J. Hensick scored the equalizer just 20 seconds later. He walked off the wall and wristed one over the shoulder of Engren with Cheechoo providing the screen. Cade Fairchild earned his second assist of the night on the play.
The game-winner came just 29 second later off the stick of Gabriel Bourque.
Peoria's power play finished 2-for-4 while the Admirals scored once on five chances.
The Rivermen return to the ice on Sunday at 5 p.m. for a game with the Rockford IceHogs. The game can be heard locally on 107.9 CD Country in Peoria or online at www.rivermen.net. For tickets call 309-676-1040 or visit the Peoria Rivermen box office.
