
Mancari's Hat Trick Not Enough as Wolves Fall 5-4 in Overtime

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.---The Chicago Wolves and Grand Rapids Griffins each netted four goals through two periods, but the Wolves could not grab the game-winner as the Griffins earned a 5-4 overtime victory Saturday night at Van Andel Arena.
Right wing Mark Mancari posted the sixth hat trick of his AHL career and center Jordan Schroeder also scored for Chicago, which saw its five-game road winning streak snapped.
Center Joakim Andersson's second goal of the night at 3:17 of overtime gave Grand Rapids the extra point in the standings. He skated in alone from the Wolves blueline and snapped a shot over the glove of Chicago goaltender Matt Climie.
Grand Rapids (10-11-1-0) opened scoring while on the power play at 4:01 of the first period. Defensmean Logan Pyett's shot from the point was stopped by Climie but the rebounded fell to the feet of left wing Fabian Brunnstrom, who threw the puck into an empty net.
Chicago (9-7-1-3) tied the score at one when left wing Bill Sweatt held the puck in the near circle and backhanded a pass to a streaking Schroeder at the far post, who one-timed the puck past Griffins netminder Tom McCollum at 12:48.
The Griffins regained the lead 88 seconds later when right wing Willie Coetzee redirected a shot in the slot past Climie at 14:10 of the opening frame.
Grand Rapids doubled its lead to 3-1 when center Jamie Johnson held the puck below the goal line and found left wing Gustav Nyquist all alone at the side of the net who slipped the puck into an empty net at 7:47 of the second period.
The Wolves closed to within 3-2 with Mancari's first goal of the night at 12:46 of the middle frame. Working on the power play, defenseman Chris Tanev fired a shot from the blueline and Mancari redirected the shot past McCollum.
The Griffins regained their two-goal lead when defenseman Brendan Smith snapped a shot from the high slot, that Climie stopped, but the rebound laid in the crease and Andersson tapped home the puck.
Climie (6-4-0) kicked out 36 of 41 shots in regulation and overtime.
Chicago tied the score at 4-4 with two goals by Mancari within a 2:40 span. Mancari's second marker of the night came at 14:26 of the middle frame when he ripped a shot from the high slot that sailed over the shoulder of McCollum.
Mancari completed his hat trick on the power play when he wristed a shot from the far circle that McCollum got a piece of with his glove, but the puck dropped down over the goal line at 17:06.
McCollum (4-3-0) posted 28 saves in regulation and overtime.
The Wolves return home for a contest against the Abbotsford Heat at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Allstate Arena.
