Milwaukee Admirals News Release
Milwaukee, WI-In front of hundreds of dogs at the team's annual Pedigree Dog Day Afternoon, the Milwaukee Admirals topped the San Antonio Rampage 2-1 Sunday night at the Bradley Center earning their 40th win and becoming the first team in league history to notch 90-plus points and 40 wins in eight consecutive seasons.
A pair of power-play goals and an exceptional performance by Milwaukee goaltender Jeremy Smith, who finished with 29 saves, earned the Admirals the win to keep pace with the Houston Aeros atop the West Division.
The Admirals got on board at 6:12 of the first period off a power-play goal by Teemu Laakso. Off the face-off, Ryan Thang gained possession of the puck and made a pass to Roman Josi at the left point. Josi sent the puck across the ice to Laakso at the right point who fired a wrister past San Antonio goalie Joe Fallon to give the Admirals a 1-0 lead.
At 3:12 of the second, former Admiral Mathieu Beaudoin scored on the power-play to knot the game at one. From the side of the net, Beaudoin shot the puck that bounced off Smith's pad and into the net. Randy Robitaille and Ned Lukaevic picked up the helpers on the tally.
Andreas Thuresson answered back at 15:41 of the second on his fifth power-play goal of the season and his third goal in the last two days. Kelsey Wilson centered the puck from the blue line to Aaron Johnson who was positioned in the slot. Johnson shot a wrister that was stopped by Fallon, but Thuresson was able to pick up the rebound and find the back of the net increasing his point streak to five games.
Milwaukee was outstanding on the penalty kill allowing San Antonio, which has the second best power-play in the league, to convert on only one of their six power-play opportunities.
Smith held off the Rampage in the third period stopping all 14 shots to boost his record to 14-6-2.
The Admirals are back in action on Saturday night when they head to Rockford for a 7:05 pm game, before returning to the Bradley Center on Sunday afternoon at 5:00 pm against San Antonio.
