Adon, Bullpen Shut out WooSox Friday
September 24, 2021 - International League (IL)
Rochester Red Wings News Release
Joan Adon struck out seven batters over 4.0 innings in his Triple-A debut and four relievers combined to allow just one hit and two walks as Rochester beat Worcester 3-0 Friday night at Polar Park.
Adon allowed two hits and three walks but did have to work out of trouble. The WooSox had second and third with two outs in the 1st but the 23-year-old got Ronaldo Hernandez to strike out. Again in the 2nd inning, Worcester put runners at second and third with two outs but Adon fanned Boston rehabber Yairo Munoz to strand a pair. Adon issued a one-out walk in the 3rd but was able to strike out the side and he worked a 1-2-3 4th inning while recording his seventh and final strikeout of the night.
Dakota Bacus (4-3) took over in the 5th and set the WooSox down in order.
The Red Wings (48-71-1) meanwhile did not have a hit until the 6th inning against Worcester's Josh Winckowski who was also making his Triple-A debut. Humberto Arteaga rolled a single to center field with one out to break up the no-hitter. After a ground out, Daniel Palka opened the scoring with a line-drive double that was almost caught by WooSox right fielder Johan Mieses. Jake Noll followed with a double of his own to make it 2-0.
Worcester would not go quietly as they were able to put runners at second and third with one out in the 6th but Bacus was able to get a strikeout and a ground out to end the threat. Gabe Klobosits struck out the side in a perfect 7th and Aaron Barrett issued a walk but worked a scoreless 8th.
Palka made it 3-0 in the 9th by golfing one out to right-center field for his 17th home run to tie Noll for the team lead in that category.
Bryan Bonnell struck out one in a perfect 9th to record his fourth save in as many appearances.
Rochester and Worcester continue the five-game series on Saturday at 12:05 p.m.
