Admirals to Build New Hockey Arena
April 1, 2015 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Milwaukee Admirals News Release
Milwaukee, WI-Milwaukee Admirals owner Harris Turer announced today that the team will build a new 10,000 seat multi-purpose arena.
The location for the venue has yet to be determined but the funding for it has already been secured. A new jock tax will go into effect beginning October 1, 2015 that will see $1 from all new athletic supporters sold in the state go to the Admirals arena. With the cost of the new facility in the $125 million range, it is estimated that payment for it will be completed around February 2155.
"We have worked tirelessly over the past years to come up with this creative funding plan," said Turer. "It will protect our citizens from undue financial risks, support them in their desire for AHL hockey, and prevent uncomfortable chaffing and bouncing that so often occurs from long and protracted public debates over arena funding."
The new arena has been created by Power Play Design Co, LLC out of Milwaukee. It will feature three seating levels, administrative offices, a 15,000 square foot pro shop, and a restaurant space that will be open all year round.
The Admirals are currently working to secure naming rights to the new arena. Companies that have expressed interest include Bike, Duke, and Papi.
