Norfolk Admirals News Release
BINGHAMTON, NY - Kyle Wanvig's second goal of the game early in the third period was the difference and Dana Tyrell registered two assists as the Norfolk Admirals (28-44-2-5) defeated the Binghamton Senators (43-29-3-4) 3-2 on Friday night at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.
Admirals leading scorer Kyle Wanvig put the visitors on the board first just 1:38 into the game. Defenseman Dane Crowley picked up his first professional point by sending a breakout pass to fellow Amateur Tryout Contract player Dana Tyrell in the neutral zone. Tyrell sent a pass to a streaking Kyle Wanvig entering the Binghamton zone along the right wing, and Wanvig sent a slap shot from the right circle that beat Senators goaltender Jeff Glass stick-side for his team-leading 21st goal.
Binghamton knotted the game at 1-1 while the teams skated at four skaters apiece late in the opening period. Defenseman Matt Kinch entered the Norfolk zone along the left wing and sent a cross-ice pass to Niko Dimitrakos at the right faceoff dot for a one-timer goal at 17:48.
Norfolk re-claimed the lead 7:46 into the second stanza. David Schneider took a slap shot from the left point that was deflected by Justin Keller in the slot past Glass. The goal was Keller's career-high fifteenth.
The lead was short-lived, as the Senators used a deflection of their own to level the score at two goals apiece less than three minutes later. Matt Carkner took a wrist shot from the right point through a screen that was deflected past Norfolk netminder Jonathan Boutin by Josh Hennessy at 10:10.
Wanvig put the Admirals up for good just 1:38 into the final frame. Tyrell sent a shot from the right circle that was deflected by Wanvig at the goalmouth. The puck squeezed between Glass' left leg and the post and barely crossed the goal line for the game-winning tally.
Boutin stopped all five third period shots - mostly in the final minutes of the contest - to preserve the victory. He earned the win by stopping 30 of 32 shots. Jeff Glass (29 shots, 26 saves) got the loss.
Norfolk was 0-4 on the power play. Binghamton was 0-6.
