The Milwaukee Admirals got on the board first with the only goal of the first period coming at 11:59 in the frame when Antti Pihlstrom netted the even strength marker. Matt Ellison earned the assist on the early tally. Both teams put eight shots on net but Milwaukee was more efficient through 20 minutes of play.
Milwaukee added to their lead with an unassisted goal at 8:08 in the second period by Mark Santorelli. After the puck was stolen from behind the Aeros net it was brought around front and put in behind Aeros' goaltender Nolan Schaefer who stopped 26 of 29 shots on the night. Houston came back within one as Ross Carlson passed the puck to Peter Olvecky in the faceoff circle who slapped the puck in. John Scott earned the second assist on the Aeros first tally to finish off the second period scoring. Houston was outshot 14-7 in the frame with the teams' heading to the locker rooms with a 2-1 score in favor of Milwaukee.
The home Admirals started the scoring for the third period in a row to go up 3-1 as Janne Niskala netted the team's final goal of the night at 8:36 in the final frame which proved to be the game-winner. With an empty net, the Aeros won a faceoff with 1:01 remaining in the game and passed the puck back to Jon Awe and over to Maxim Noreau who slapped the puck in with 58 seconds left on the clock. Awe and Serge Payer earned the assists but the club couldn't convert another last minute goal for a 3-2 final in favor of Milwaukee.
The Aeros return home tomorrow to take on the Admirals in the second of three games against the club this weekend. Tomorrow's game will be the last opportunity for fans to bid on "Jerseys Off Their Backs" in a Houston Aeros Charities silent auction. Each of the Houston players will personally autograph and hand their jerseys over on the ice following the game. The first 3,000 fans through the doors will receive Aeros Thunderstix prior to the 7:35 p.m. contest.
