Stars Announce Year End Award Winners

Des Moines, IA - The Iowa Stars announced the winners of this season's player awards at the Season Ticket Holder Awards Banquet held at Prairie Meadows Racetrack and Casino on Wednesday evening. Coaches, players, staff, sponsors and season ticket holders were all in attendance as players were presented with individual superlative awards.

The Iowa Stars awards for the 2007-2008 season are as follows:

Janos Vas - 7th Player Award - presented by TS Construction - Presented annually to the player deemed by the coaches and team management to have performed above and beyond expectations throughout the course of the season.

Tobias Stephan - Unsung Hero Award - presented by Wells Fargo - Presented annually to the player deemed by coaches and team management to have contributed to the team in ways that go beyond statistics and outside of the spotlight.

Francis Wathier - Community Service Award - presented by United Way 2-1-1 - Presented annually to the player who has made the greatest commitment to the local community and charitable organizations throughout the course of the season.

Mark Fistric - Best Defenseman Award - presented by Iowa Health - Presented annually to the defenseman deemed by the coaches and team management to be most proficient at his position.

B.J. Crombeen - Most Improved Player - presented by Iowa Beverage/ Miller Lite - Presented annually to the player deemed by coaches and team management to have shown the most improvement over the season.

James Neal - Rookie of the Year - presented by Dahl's - Presented annually to the player deemed by coaches and team management to be the most proficient in their first professional season.

Toby Petersen - MVP - presented by Prairie Meadows - Presented annually to the player voted by his teammates to be most valuable to the team.

Janos Vas - Booster Club Award - Presented to the player selected by the Booster Club as the 'unsung hero'.

The Stars and their season ticket holders enjoyed a wonderful evening of elegant dining at Prairie Meadows Racetrack and Casino. Fans were able to sit with their favorite players over dinner and meet and greet everyone after the awards were handed out.

Although the season at home is finished for the Stars they will now hit the road for their remaining three games. The Stars face off against the Quad City Flames tonight at 7:05 PM then will take on the Peoria Rivermen on Saturday before their final game on Sunday at Rockford.
