Hamilton Bulldogs News Release
HAMILTON, ON - The Hamilton Bulldogs had their three-game winning streak and five-game point streak snapped on Friday night with a 3-2 loss to the Toronto Marlies at Copps Coliseum in their final home game of the 2007-2008 season. With the loss, Hamilton's record drops to 35-33-3-7 on the campaign.
The Bulldogs jumped out to a 1-0 lead at 9:56 of the first period when Matt D'Agostini deked into the Marlies zone and snapped a shot over the glove hand of goaltender Scott Clemmensen. Kyle Chipchura, who returned to the line-up after missing four games due to injury, and Mathieu Biron earned helpers on D'Agostini's 22nd goal of the season.
Toronto scored just 1:00 into the second frame to tie the game 1-1. Alex Foster and Colin Murphy combined to set up Ben Ondrus for his 14th tally of the season.
Brent Aubin gave the Marlies a 2-1 advantage at 9:22 of the middle stanza when his shot from the top of the face-off circle beat Bulldogs' netminder Yann Danis. Jiri Tlusty and Jay Harrison assisted on Aubin's 10th marker of the campaign.
Hamilton evened the score 2-2 on the power-play at 16:29 of the second frame when D'Agostini tipped an Eric Manlow face-off win back to Pavel Valentenko who then blasted a slap shot from the point past Clemmensen. The tally was Valentenko's first-career American Hockey League goal.
Toronto took the lead for good at 16:43 of the third stanza when Tlusty took a pass from John Mitchell on a 2-on-1 and beat Danis high over the blocker side. Colin Murphy earned the other assist on the 3-2 game-winning goal.
Danis stopped 25 of 28 shots in the loss for the 'Dogs, while Clemmensen turned aside 21 of 23 shots to earn the win for the 'Baby Leafs.
The Bulldogs went 1-for-3 with the man advantage and were a perfect 2-for-2 on the penalty kill.
