November 20, 2009 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Norfolk Admirals News Release
LOWELL, Mass. - Brandon Bochenski tallied his league-leading twelfth goal of the season. However, his Norfolk Admirals (10-9-1-0) fell to the Lowell Devils (11-6-3-0) 2-1 on Friday night at the Tsongas Arena. The Admirals fell to 2-2-1-0 through five legs of their eight-game road trip.
Lowell jumped out to a 1-0 lead just 24 seconds into the contest. Devils leading point scorer Vladimir Zharkov attempted a centering feed from behind the goal line in the left corner. The pass banked off the back of Admirals goaltender Dustin Tokarski and into the net.
The hosts doubled their lead at 12:12 of the opening period. Devils defenseman Olivier Magnan took a wrist shot from the left half wall. Michael Swift touched the puck as it was en route to the goal and deflected its path enough to elude Tokarski as it founds its way into the net.
The Admirals closed to within one goal of the Devils midway through the second stanza. Blair Jones cut down the right wing and skated behind the net before centering a pass to Brandon Bochenski in the slot. Bochenski got off a point blank shot that former Admirals goaltender Mike McKenna stopped while falling down. Bochenski found his own rebound near the top of the crease and put in his league-leading 12th goal of the season at 12:33.
The Admirals sent nine shots on McKenna in the final frame and played the last 1:33 with Tokarski on the bench in favor of a sixth attacker. However, they could not find the equalizer.
Dustin Tokarski (31 shots, 29 saves) shouldered the loss. Mike McKenna (30 shots, 29 saves) earned the win for the Devils.
Norfolk was 0-2 on the power play. Lowell was 0-1.
The Admirals will play game six of their season-long eight-game road trip against the Portland Pirates tomorrow night at 7:00. All Admirals games can be heard on STAR 1310-AM and star1310.com. They can also be seen on a pay-per-view basis on ahllive.com.
