Too Sweet For Bingo: Hershey Pounds B-Sens 5-1

Binghamton Senators News Release
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Hershey Bears returned to Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena one step ahead of the B-Sens with a 2-1 lead in the season series between the two East division rivals. Tonight, the Bears offense was one step ahead of the B-Sens defense as they skated past Binghamton 5-2.
Though the B-Sens out shot the Bears 40-22, the Bears capitalized on wide-open opportunities. On the other side of the ice, Hershey's net minder Jason Bacashihua, the game's second star, turned away 38 shots with several acrobatic saves and a fast glove. Bears Forward Alexandre Giroux received first star honors with a goal and two assists.
Hershey struck first just a minute and a half into the game, as Giroux fed a pass across the slot on a two-on-one to Boyd Kane, whose wrist shot went top-shelf over the left shoulder of Brodeur.
The B-Sens had some clearing problems in the second period. A clearing pass was broken up by Andrew Gordon, who exchanged a few passes back and forth from Giroux, who eventually backhanded a shot past a vulnerable Brodeur at 1:32.
On their second penalty kill of the night off a too many men on the ice call, Binghamton was stood up at their own blue line. Giroux brought the puck up the left side, drawing the lone defender to him once again, and fed it to Gordon at the far post, who buried it in to give the Bears a 3-0 lead.
Binghamton had a few chances to minimize the scoring deficit, but goaltender Bacashihua kept the puck out of the net. Midway through the second, Martin St. Pierre received a pass up the middle for a breakaway, but his wrist shot was turned aside by Bacashihua. Minutes later, Bacashihua made a sprawling glove save on the goal line off a rebound to keep the B-Sens scoreless.
But the B-Sens' bad luck didn't end there. Erik Karlsson attempted a slap shot from the point, but his stick shattered, leaving the puck lying right in front of him. Steve Pinizzotto chipped the puck up to Trevor Bruess on a breakaway, who beat Brodeur over the left shoulder at 15:58 for his first goal of the season.
The B-Sens first got on the board four minutes into the third off a face-off deep in the Hershey zone. From the point, Karlsson threw the puck towards the net and it was deflected by Ryan Keller for his team-leading 11th goal of the season.
Kyle Wilson added insurance as he stole a bouncing puck off the boards and lifted a backhand past Brodeur at 10:16 to give the Bears a 5-1 lead.
In their last effort, Binghamton's Martin St. Pierre busted up the boards from his own zone on a breakaway, and beat Bacashihua below the right bad with 45 seconds remaining in the game.
The B-Sens look to redeem themselves tomorrow, Saturday, Nov. 21st, back at the Arena against the Albany River Rats.
